FANG - 2024 Retrospective and Driving Forward

Sorry for missing October! We were too busy playing FANG and in general enjoying fall. The results were surprising!

After 3 rounds of humans whooping monster behind, it appears that we might have over corrected.

Ultimately, without Cultists to draw them out, the humans had no reason to leave the Town Square, most even flocked to it. So what to do? The solution we think works best is 2 fold. First, simply reducing the strength of humans at the Town Hall so it is riskier to stay there. Second, a portal that opens at the top of Mount Plant should the monsters fail to convert any new monsters by the end of night 2. More playtesting is needed though. I hope to get the revised rules out by the end of the month.

And now onto our next project!

Well I had a long list of games that I thought would be next, from single player RPGs to sci-fi thrillers. What ended up happening was surprising though. While hacking through some old notes (looking at fleshing out The Show Must Go On) - I can across a fun mechanic. I started writing, rolled some dice, and before I knew it I had a game! A fun game!

The working title is Wheel 2 Wheel! A racing game of guts, cunning, and drama.

Long time followers probably remember Atomic Hotrod Hovercrafts - A sci-fi racing thriller designed for asynchronus play. It is fun and certainly has it's following, but it is far from perfect. Wheel to Wheel looks too take that core idea of an asychronous racing game and improve it with all the experience we got with Top Line Hockey. Wheel to Wheel focuses on more "old school" racing, inspired by films like Rush and Ford vs Ferrari (and of course F1, FE, and Indycar).

You will me the one to build your car, tweaking its performance and reliability to go the distance. You will also manage your driver to train, secure brand deals, and take part in underhanded tactics.

Races will play out on tracks inspired by real world circuits, and present the challenges of pit stops, weather, and hard driving that will pack the race with drama right up to the very end.

Of course we have lots to do before it's ready to go (early playtests are still on going, you can find out more on the discord) but this project does seem to be fitting as our next game, stay tuned for updates.
